Negative energy terms

Negative energy (nakaratmak urja)

A heavy, draining influence on a person or place that people experience as tiredness, conflict and obstacles. Full guide.

Energy attack

A sudden, unexplained drop in wellbeing attributed to an outside influence such as envy, ill-will or a disturbed place. Signs.

Psychic attack

Being affected by another person's strong negative focus — jealousy, anger or obsession — without any ritual. Protection.

Aura

The subtle energy field around the body, reflecting the state of the chakras. Aura cleansing.

Chakra

One of seven energy centres along the spine, from Muladhara (root) to Sahasrara (crown). Chakra cleansing.

Grah kalesh

Repeated conflict and unrest in a household. Home cleansing.

Nazar and black magic terms

Nazar dosh (buri nazar, drishti dosh)

The evil eye — negativity caused by envy or excessive praise, usually unintentional. Nazar removal.

Nazar utarna

Traditional household removal of nazar, for example circling salt and red chillies around a person seven times.

Kala jadu (black magic)

A ritual performed deliberately to harm someone. Much rarer than commonly feared. Signs · Removal.

Tantra badha

Harm or obstruction believed to be caused through tantric means; another term for black magic effects.

Tona-totka

Folk spells or small rituals, used either as remedies or, in the negative sense, to cause harm.

Astrology terms

Kundli (janam kundli, birth chart)

A map of planetary positions at the exact date, time and place of birth, used in Vedic astrology. Consultation.

Dasha

A planetary period in Vedic astrology. The running dasha shows which planet's influence is strongest at a given time.

Gochar (transit)

The current movement of planets relative to your birth chart.

Dosha (dosh)

A planetary combination believed to create recurring obstacles. Dosh nivaran.

Kaal sarp dosh

Formed when all seven planets lie on one side of the Rahu–Ketu axis. Full guide.

Manglik dosh

Mars placed in certain houses, traditionally checked before marriage; often cancelled by other factors. Love & marriage.

Rahu and Ketu

Tantra

A spiritual tradition of mantra, meditation and ritual aimed at awakening and directing divine energy (Shakti).

Mantra
